CERTIFIED PASSIVE HOUSE CONSULTANT & DESIGNER COURSE
Internationally Certified Passive House Consultant program which will focus on how to achieve the Passive House standard for larger scale projects, including multi-family, offices, schools and university dormitories.
Module 1: March 5th to 8th 2014
Module 2: March 17th to 20th 2014
This course is aimed at ALL Building Professionals, including Architects and Mechanical, Civil, Structural and Electrical Engineers, Contractors and Builders. Please see footnote to this leaflet for further details or visit www.passivhausplaner.eu.
Seven days (eight in NYC) of direct contact classroom training, from 8.30am to 5:30pm. The reason for the longer course in NYC is to facilitate a full day visit to the Passive House Tradesperson Lab where participants can see a wide range of envelope and mechanical systems.
Combination of lectures by leading Passive House experts, group design and calculation exercises, workshops, and exchange with experienced contractors.
Please note that hands-on training in the use of PHPP software is not delivered in this program as it is not part of the test. PHA delivers the software training as aseparate 3-day PHPP course which is best taken on completion of the CPHCD program. Throughout the CPHCD course, however, the trainers will demonstrate key elements of the software as it pertains to energy balancing of Passive House projects.
Two high quality color training manuals (in both inch-pound as well as metric units) comprising 800+ pages are provided at course commencement, including test-prep material.
Class size is typically between 10 and 20 persons.
The CPHCD exam is set by the Passivhaus Institut and takes place all round the world on four pre-determined dates per year. PHA schedules the training to allow sufficient study time between course completion and the exam dates (see below).
On successfully passing the exam, Participants will receive the internationally recognized accreditation as Certified Passive House Consultant / Designer, joining a rapidly expanding global community. Furthermore, this program has been accredited by the American Institute of Architects and is worth 45+ Learning Units.
Learning Objectives for Module 1:
Define the Passive House Standard;
Calculate the energy balance of Passive House buildings, considering transmission and ventilation losses as well as solar and internal heat gains;
Outline the principles of designing Passive House buildings;
Specify the performance characteristics of opaque envelope detailing, including insulation, airtightness and thermal bridging;
Specify Passive House window systems, including performance assessment and fitting details;
Summarize the fundamentals of thermal comfort during the summer; and
Understand the issues used to calculate Primary Energy consumption, including electrical energy, in Passive House projects
Learning Objectives for Model 2:
Outline key indoor air quality issues assured in Passive House buildings;
Understand mechanical ventilation with heat or energy recovery including system design, detailing, sizing and layout;
Summarize space heating and hot water generation and distribution options for Passive House buildings;
Highlight important principles of cooling and dehumidification for summer comfort;
Complete the basics of economic efficiency calculation and profitability of deep retrofit measures;
Describe information to be considered in invitations to bid, construction site management and quality control;
Outline key information and support for occupants of Passive House projects; and
Successfully complete exam style exercises, designs and multiple-choice challenges.
* We also invite you to register for the exam on March 29th 2014 at an additional fee of $350. The exam fee can be paid at a later date if required.
