Inside a Berkeley Passive House - A Jobsite Tour

This 1-hour jobsite tour will take place at 3.30pm, and repeat at 4.30pm.  The site is small and space is limited, therefore all attendees MUST REGISTER for a timeslot at:

This jobsite visit is hosted by PHCA as the March monthly meeting.  The tour is free to PHCA Pro members, $5 for supporters, and $10 for guests. (Fee to be collected at the jobsite.)


"Inside a Berkeley Passive House"

The Project:

This is a backyard cottage that has been designed, modeled and is being built to meet the Passive House Standard by Steve Mann.  Visitors will be able to tour this 'work in progress' to learn about air-sealing, advanced framing, super-insulation and ventilation and what those look like for Passive House in our climate.  The project is currently featured in an article by the owner in Home Energy magazine.

Presenter Bio:

Steve Mann, principal of Home Energy Services, has been involved in the construction business for more than 25 years in multiple capacities. Some of his many credentials include Certified Energy Analyst, HERS Rater, LEED AP+ Homes, BPI-certified Building, Envelope, and Multifamily Analyst, CalCERTS QA Inspector and Certified Instructor, and Certified Passive House Consultant and Passive House Builder. Steve is also long-time a Home Energy magazine contributing editor and Treasurer and past President of the California Association of Building Energy Consultants. He is building a Passive House in his back yard.
