Topic: Origins of Passive House Software - the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP), New Integration with SketchUp, and a brief look at the future of the Passive House Standard
The co-founder of the Passive House Standard will share insights on how the essential tool necessary for the design of Passive Houses - the Passive House Planning Package (or PHPP) - was developed. Journey with him through the early history of the energy modeling tool that is now taking the high performance building world by storm. Enjoy an early preview of PH Design Tool - the SketchUp App currently being developed by the Passive House Institute, and learn about upcoming Passive House developments across the globe.
Presenter: Dr. Wolfgang Feist
Wolfgang Feist (born 1954) is a German physicist and structural engineer. He founded the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt and is a pioneer of the passive house energy standard for buildings. From 1981 to 1985 he worked as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Kassel where he created the post graduate education on energy technology. As a researcher at the Institute for Housing and Environment (IWU) in Darmstadt, he established the working group on energy efficiency. He has been a guest researcher at the Institute of Building Construction at the University of Lund. In 1996 Feist founded the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt. He is the scientific director of the working group on cost efficient passive houses. Since 2008, Wolfgang Feist has served as Professor for Structural Engineering and Building Physics at the University of Innsbruck.
In 2001 he was awarded the German Environmental Award by the German Environmental Foundation for his work on the development of the Passive House concept. In 2003, the Gothenburg International Environment Prize was jointly awarded to Wolfgang Feist and Swedish architect Hans Eek for their “pioneering work on Passive Houses which contributes to a great reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels and the emission of carbon dioxide.” The Royal Institute of British Architects awarded Dr. Feist an Honorary Fellowship in February of 2013.
