Project Description:

This new Passive House standard inspired home connects to an existing guest house through a central, open courtyard. Both the public and private interior spaces are positioned to enjoy views of a eucalyptus grove and dry creek. 

The entry gate off the drive opens to reveal a central fountain. The fountain anchors the courtyard and leads the eye to glass entry doors, past the library and out to a central loggia that connects master suite, guest suite and great room. Drawing inspiration from the southwest, the ochre stucco palette and blended tile roof feel at home in the Napa Valley. 

The loggia and an automated louver at the rake wall screen intense, western sun. The laundry room is conveniently located within the house but can be physically isolated to prevent heat release to the main house when in use. The carport allows for natural ventilation of automobile fumes, which, in a traditional house with adjacent garage, reduce indoor air quality.
